While we still wait on Kouassi Eboue’s paper work to be finalised it has been widely accepted by the support that with the players imminent transfer will see one of the current midfielders fall by the wayside.

With the emergence of Stuart Armstrong, Broony playing the season of perhaps his whole career, McGregor being a good rotational option and now Kouassi – the odd man out seems to be Nir Bitton.

While he can bring a calmness to the midfield the Celtic support has always been divided on his contributions overall. With less game time likely after the winter break Rodgers is aware that the Israeli is growing restless but has been a model professional since he took over in the summer.

Speaking about similar conversations the manager had with Stefan Johansen before he moved to Fulham, the Irishman would not stand in Nir’s way and is very understanding of Nir’s current situation.

“Nir has come into games and has done his job well. He’s just signed a contract, but, of course, I’ll always have conversations with players.

“I had an honest conversation with Stefan Johansen and if what any player wants to do marries with the thoughts of the club, then it’s fine. I respect it’s a short career.

Stefan is playing regularly down south with Fulham now and Nir may look at the Norweigan’s move and think he can make a similar impact elsewhere.

Nir is still a valued, talented player so it won’t be a forgone conclusion that he will leave in January. It all depends on what offers Celtic receive.

There has been speculation since the summer that Espanyol are very interested in taking the holding midfielder to Spain, but nothing has materialised as of yet.

“I’ll see what offers come in and assess it from there.” said Rodgers

“Nir knows where I’m at. Any time he’s knocked on my door, it’s to ask how he can improve and be better.

  1. If Biton goes I would like to see McGregor going too as he brings nothing to the team.In my opinion McGregor is a younger version of Johansen, and I thought Johansen ran about all over the park without no end result.
