CELTIC were reportedly last night trying to make an 11th hour bid for Rennes defender Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik.

The Cameroon international is nearing a move to Palermo but Celtic are hoping to make an intervention and snatch the defender away from the Italian side.

A popular French football site has said the 25 year old would be keen in exploring a move to Celtic if they make a firm bid for his services.

But it may yet be in vain as the Palermo deal is more concrete and further forward at this stage.

Celtic are also in the market for a striker and have been linked with a move for Spanish lower division striker Stefan Scepovic of Sporting Gijo. However, no confirmed contact with the Spanish club has been made at present.
