CELTIC put an end to speculation when they signed Stuart Armstrong on a new two-year deal.

However, as he still had one year let on his current contract, it’s seen more like a one-year extension which irked some of the Celtic support. The reason being, Celtic will be in the same spot next summer when the player has one year left on his new deal.

If rumours are right then Stuart Armstrong has a lot of admirers down south, and a bid of £5-6million came in before next week’s deadline – It’s my belief, Celtic should still sell him.

The lack of commitment and heel dragging by the midfielder and his representatives this summer rubbed a lot of people the long way. The Celtic fans appreciate how good Stuart became last season, but he’s by no means the heartbeat of the Celtic midfield – not yet anyway.

The fear is, Brendan Rodgers will make him a pivotal star in his team and in 12 months time it would be all for nothing.

In a way, you could say that about a few other talents, like Moussa Dembele but Moussa has a category unto himself. A player like Moussa who will probably head out next summer for a massive fee is someone who should be enjoyed here, and I’m implementing a double standard when it comes to Armstrong.

For me, Armstrong is a player who could have an enormous amount of success in Celtic’s midfield but a player who we should build around to do so. How can Rodgers build around if the Scot can’t commit to the club on a long-term basis?

If no bids come in, then I think Brendan won’t use Stuart as much as he did last season and favour the impressive Olivier N’tcham in that position. Using Stuart for the heavy fixture schedule but not building any team around him.

  1. I would leave it to January and see how he is doing. If he is to be sold now isn’t the time with CL games coming up. I hope we can get him tied down long term as he could become a mega player for us.

  2. Anything north of £4M I would sell him .He has not committed himself to us as were lead to believe he would same fiasco next season .Get rid

  3. Absolute rubbish, lack of commitment? Don’t talk nonsense, yes he has struggled a bit with his form do far this season but the contract situation hasn’t helped but to say he isn’t committed is completely out of order , Stuart Armstrong will come good again very soon

  4. I think he stayed to put himself in the window through the champions league .. his heart isn’t at Celtic or he would have signed for longer than 2 years..id play rogic ahead of him any day

  5. If as Armstrong says he always wanted to stay at Celtic then he should sack his agent! He is an intelligent person and he also knows what the Celtic fans think of his antics!

  6. With the exception of a brief period toward the end of the season when Armstrong excelled, the Dundee United trio haven’t proved to have been worth the money or lived up to expectations. We need to stop signing people who shine when they play against us but fail to when they come on board e.g. Willow Flood. Funnily enough when they leave they seem to rediscover their mojo! I worry that Johnny Hayes will be another.

I’d sell Armstrong now if we can and certainly in January if we can’t. Only Celtic minded players will do

    Hail Hail
