Celtic have had a tough time in Cup competitions over the last while.

In-fact the League cup has not been our friend at all in recent memory. Celtic have failed to win the trophy since the 08/09 season when Darren O’Dea and Aiden McGeady got on the score sheet to down Rangers(1873). Since then we have been beaten in two finals and been knocked out by minnows.

Ronny Deila sees the importance of this competition and how it could be a spring-board for the team.

“It is vital. It is one of the three competitions we can win in Scotland, so we need to win on Wednesday. I am looking forward to it.” He said.

“It is the first we can win. It is very important for me and the whole club and we will do everything we can to win it”

It will be a cold night under the flood lights as Celtic Park hosts the big Glasgow derby. Celtic have been showing signs that they can win even when they aren’t playing well but a performance along with a result tonight will go a long way for some doubters.

When people have questioned the manager in recent weeks it has been pointed out that we are still in 4 competitions and doing well in the Europa League despite not getting the best performances out the team. So there is still plenty to be positive about despite what ex Celts in the media try to tell you.

If Celtic manage it past Partick Thistle tonight then a semi final date awaits them in the new year.
