Ronny Deila captured his second signing of the summer yesterday as Saidy Janko signed a four-year-deal with the club. He follows a similar path to Dedryk Boyata who came to Glasgow from the Blue half of Manchester last month. Two signings done and two defenders in, I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

With Jason Denayer going back to Man City it was imperative that Celtic get at least one centre back in. Another may be needed if Virgil van Dijk gets his much talked about move before the end of the current window. We also did have a big problem at right back, even though we have 3 recognisable players in  Matthews, Lustig and Fisher in that position – all three have had their injury problems that have left Celtic in a bind during a heavy fixture period. Adam Matthews would admit himself that he had to play more than one game not fully fit last season.

So Saidy will come in and fight for that position as well as being able to play further up the field if need be. We fully expect one of the current right backs at the club to be leaving. As the site reported yesterday it’s more than likely Adam Matthews that will move on. Some saying he’s asked for a move but nothing confirmed at the moment.

Celtic’s back line last season consisted of Izzy, Denayer, van Dijk and Matthews/Lustig. This season will see Izzy, Boyata, van Dijk and Janko be the back four. 50% new back line that could raise to 75% if the right offer comes in for the big Dutchman seeing Izzy as the soul survivor from last season.

Ronny knows he as a plethora of talent in midfield and has to worry about these positions the least so defence was a big issue and it’s great to see the Norweigan tackling it slowly but surely. Of course we are all screaming for a new striker but I believe that will come in the next week or two as Ronny and Celtic firm up their interest in whoever is on their hit list. With the two signings that have come in we should be very happy so far. Boyata and Janko were both praised by their old teams support as they signed for Celtic. Some Manchester Utd fans in particular are very irritated they let Saidy go.

Running out 2-0 winners last night at St Mirren park the Ronny Revolution seems to be only getting started.
