Ronny Deila has came in for some heavy criticism since taking over at Celtic, especially from former players. While the manager tries to work out a consistent formula a growing trend of bashing the Norweigan has emerged from people once employed by the club but now earn their supper from the main stream media. Ronny however is unmoved by the criticism levelled at him, he knows how the game works and understands where they are coming from.

“I worked in the media as well, so I understand the different roles. You don’t always say what you think – you say what will sell.” Said Deila.

“Back home, I was talking in big words about how Norwegian football should be.

“I have respect for that, it’s no problem. I upset a few other managers in Norway with things I said. I had a lot of arguments, but I was young. I unerstand the rules now – talk about yourself and your club.”

Celtic sit top of their Europa League group after 3 games in the competition. While Thursday nights performance was atrocious it’s testament to the team that they still managed to get the three points. This being missed by so many who have already made their mind up about the manager. We’ve all seen Celtic play wonderful football in Europe and come away with absolutely nothing to show. Sometimes you need to win ugly and have team who are capable of doing so. Right now the results come first and the performance is secondary as Deila looks to climb up the SPFL table and progress in all competitions.

This is not an unequivocal backing of the manager by any means but he must be allowed the time to do his job. If results aren’t forthcoming in the long run then no one will be able to save him. Let’s reserve judgement however  till we’re not still in 4 competitions.
