Yesterday afternoon Celtic secured their first trophy of the season thanks to goals from Kris Commons and James Forrest. The day was predominately filled with positives and one very big positive to take from yesterday was Emilio Izzaguire being able to walk away from a horror tackle.

The Celtic full back was recklessly mowed down by Dundee United player Sean Dillon in the second half, resulting in the player being sent off.

Every time this challenge is repeated it makes me wince at what could have happened to the Honduran who after some treatment on the side-lines was able to shake off the challenge.

There can be no arguments that the tackle was a sending off although the United support hit out with a “Same old Celtic – always cheating” jibe after Dillon had walked through the tunnel. A defiant chant in the heat of battle, but any right minded person knew the player used extremely poor judgement carrying out this challenge and the player had to go.

Dillon is now set to miss Wednesday night’s Scottish Cup quarter final replay at Celtic Park for his dismissal.
