It was inevitable that we would be linked with the Dundee Utd player again this summer – I’m almost surprised it has taken this long.
Reports today suggest Celtic have now made an offer for the strikers services, an offer that has apparently been rebuffed by the Arabs.
Celtic can’t sign proven entities anymore, that’s a given but what they can do is not sign players who have a proven averageness as well as daft streak. Last season the Dundee United striker netted 16 in 42 appearances for the club. A not bad return for Dundee Utd but he has hardly set the world on fire. He also comes with baggage as he doesn’t seem to want to behave himself, the last game of the season a prime example when he bit an opposition player then claimed the player had falsified the bite mark.
When you look at Cifti and say Adam Rooney for example – Adam has scored 28 goals in 47 appearances for Aberdeen. The player gets his head down and he proved a handful for many SPFL sides including Celtic at times. If I were Celtic and looking close to home then I’d rather him. Of course these are two different types of players and I can see Ronny is looking for a bigger striker to help lead the line on nights where we need to have a plan b. Scepovic was his first crack at that type of player but he just hasn’t done it yet.
I hope the rumours are correct and that Celtic will miss out on Cifti who Middlesborough are now looking at. There has to be better value out there somewhere. We might need to dig just a little deeper but it could prove vital for Celtic’s season.
