REPORTS suggest that Celtic are currently after towering centre back Filip Benkovic from Zagreb as Rodgers looks to bolster his back line.

With Dedryk Boyata and Efe Ambrose high on the list to leave Celtic Park, the manager wants reinforcements should they both go elsewhere.

Filip Benkovic is held in very high regard by many clubs in Europe. The player who took over from Jozo Simunovic in Zagreb’s back line was subject of a bid from Manchester United earlier this season. The deal looked promising until Zagreb demanded more up front cash for the 19-year-old which was quickly quashed by the Manchester hierarchy.

Given his status and talent at just nineteen, the defenders club has attached an overinflated price on his head to any suitors who want to take him away.

The fee they’re looking for is nearer 10million Euros and would be enough to scare the deal makers at Celtic Park away from any sort of negotiations.

It’s unlikely that much will come of this interest but it’s very encouraging to see where Brendan Rodgers head is at and the ilk of player he wants in.

Contrary to reports the players agent has told the media Filip has not signed a new deal with Zagreb yet but his current deal still has three years to run.
