A week is a long time in football, with many wanting to focus on the negatives surrounding the clubs and quite frankly I’m astonished that there is any. I would like to sing the praises of young Kristoffer Ajer.

With two defenders out injured, the young Norweigan was brought into the side to face Rosenborg, and his performance could be described as mature and professional.

The bhoy, who came in as a midfielder has found himself in the backline since coming to Scotland and did so for Kilmarnock last season.

Football can always offer a good player an opportunity, and Ajer’s came last night, and on the night he did his reputation no harm whatsoever.

Before you think I’m getting too giddy about our young prospect, I do understand we were playing against a very defensive Rosenborg side, and there will be tougher opposition throughout the season, it’s a good start at least.

Brendan Rodgers is keeping his cards close to his chest regarding the player, obviously, the player was on the field out of necessity last night, and Rodgers did this last season with young Eoghan O’Connell who also came in and did a decent job. However, the manager didn’t see anything in the Irishman past that and has since been sold to Bury.

It will be up to Ajer to prove in the coming months that he is up to the task and could be a great squad player throughout the season. The alternative is another loan, but I hope we hold onto him.

  1. He played well last night .. I’m not worried about the on field performance we missed a out and out striker last night and that needs to be remided but ajer and ntcham were both brilliant and with Griffiths back next week we will score .. there was no atmosphere last night and I’m more worried about that .

  2. There’s no need to get dizzy, the lad either had a good game or not, so let him be judged on the night and give the guy credit instead of the ifs and buts.

  3. Ajer will go out on loan again this season , did well enough last night, and I think Rodgers will know he will get more game time on loan to another side than he will in under 20s or on bench with 1st team, I can see a proper centre half been brought in within the next couple of weeks to bolster the back line, we need this

  4. The young fella was first class last night so good on him .What really passes me off is how longer is Forrest being allowed to get away with his rank rotten performances with impunity. When I think of the men who have been given the Number 7.Jersey when watching Forrest then I cringe.Let’s face it,he shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as Gallagher. Fernie. Johnstone. Dalglish. Larsson. Etc. .
