KRIS COMMONS has cut an isolated figure at Celtic Park this season.

Since Brendan Rodgers came in the midfielder was quickly identified by the Irishman as not of the necessary standard going forward. Given how the season has panned out it’s difficult to disagree with the manager.

Rodgers wants mobility and pace from his attacking midfielders and Kris has never been overly gifted in that department. Nonetheless, overall, Kris has been an absolute, unmitigated success since coming to Celtic.

It was his goals and drive that ensured Neil Lennon would not come up short when his strikers failed to deliver. It was Kris who lead a flat team kicking and screaming through many games scoring 27 goals from 34 games that season. At 350k for his transfer from Derby, I think we’ve got more than our monies worth.

The player and his family have integrated into the club in a massive way and it shows how much they care about the Celtic cause, even when Kris isn’t a direct part of it.

Some may point to the midfielders petulance in the Europa League with Ronny Deila as leaving a bad taste in the mouth but that night the player was, in fact, speaking for every frustrated supporter; like it or not.

With all things considered I hope that the Celtic manager recognises the service Kris has gave this club and rewards him with a short outing in the coming weeks. Even a cameo on the last day of the season before he rides off into the sunset. Bringing him on as a substitute against Hearts would raise the roof of the place and be a nice moment for the player and fans.

It remains to be seen if Rodgers will take this approach. Ultimately, the Irishman has no obligation to Kris but you wonder if he’ll let him have his moment.

  1. I hope Kris gets a run out as he’s been an amazing servant to our club and deserves a final swan song. I don’t think he came from Forest tho. Hail Hail.

  2. Couldn’t agree more. I had the pleasure of watching the game on Sunday with his other half, Lisa, here in Dubai and to say the family have bought into the club is an understatement. A great servant to the club and scorer of some HUGE goals over the years.

  3. Personally, i think we’ll feel undervalued as supporters if we don’t get the opportunity to give Kris a truly Celtic send off.

He, Lisa & the family deserve that tribute.

    • Agreed John. This would be fitting. A really good servant to the club who have benefited greatly from his exploits. he deserves a chance to be applauded by the fans.

  4. Give him the last 5 games and a place on the bench for the cup final. He is/was a fantastic player for us when mediocrity reigned. Hail Hail Kris Commons.

  5. No room for sentiment. He’s was terrific player but he needs to earn start on merit or else unfair on other players.

    Thanks and good luck Kris.

  6. I would personally like to see this as well. However, this is a ‘different’ team setup and BR has no duty to do this. I hope he does as KC has been a great servant.

  7. Kris made me a few quid off the bookies while he was in the side, would love to see him get a run out to a wondrous cheer from the fans.

  8. It’s not all about winning. This is about family and gratitude. Let’s give a fellow Celt a worthy salute in thanks for past deeds.

  9. Kris has done well for us but after his attitude at being took off i wouldnt have let him play for celtic again and if they play him how will the young boys feel that are fighting every day in training for a chance if he just walks straight in to the team

  10. What an emotional day it would be if Kris came on in the last match of the season.
To be in Parkhead would be a treasure.
This man is a pure Gentleman and of course his family. Hail Hail
