Yes, it’s time to get into the Christmas spirit and show good will to all man, woman and child BUT as we get closer to the big day we also get closer to the January transfer window. The pesky window opens in just over a months time with plenty of Celtic players subject to speculation – some credible and some not so credible.

One deal that is starting to worry me personally is the on-going talks between Kris Common’s and the club. I’m not accusing Celtic or Kris for the talks taking so long, we don’t know what negotiations have taken place after all. However, what we do know is that he has yet to commit his future to Celtic beyond this season.

Kris Commons was Celtic MVP last season, leading the clubs scoring charts when the strikers failed to do their job consistently. He has been a great servant for the club and is a real fans favourite. I can’t help shake the feeling though that his days may be numbered at Celtic Park. I had the same feeling with Joe Ledley last year when he was running down his contract going into the window. At the time Joe had came out in the papers saying he was committed to Celtic but by the end of the window as we watched Sky Sports News EXCESSIVE coverage of deadline day, Joe had turned up at Crystal Palace after Celtic accepted a bid from the Premiership side. He was gone, just like that!

I think Kris still has a part to play at Celtic beyond this season, he is a wiser head and can definitely help the younger lads get on as well as chip in with some goals here and there. However if the player is looking at his long term plan then the possibility he might link up with former Celtic boss Neil Lennon down at Bolton with a view to joining Lenny’s backroom staff eventually might sway his decision. Of course this is all again speculation and would be subject to Celtic accepting a bid for his services in January. Personally, I would like him to stay at the club and be part of the coaching staff here eventually.

I’m not trying to add to any speculation with this article as I have no inside track on what the player wants, for all I know he is penning his new deal as I type, but I’ve been around football long enough to know the score. While we as fans cannot see why ANYONE would want to go anywhere else, these players have to do what’s best for them in the long run.

There are some fans maybe out there now that wouldn’t miss Kris Commons  as much as they would have last season if he was to head for the exit but I for one would be disappointed to see him leave.

Here’s hoping he signs on soon enough.
