Adam Matthews and James Forrest will at least miss the first leg of the Champions League play-off against Maribor after both sustaining injuries at the weekend.

Adam Matthews pulled up during warm up at the weekend and James Forrest limped off the pitch close to tears after Celtic’s 6-1 victory over Dundee Utd,

John Collins admits the coaching team are disappointed but have confidence in the players coming in.

“We’re obviously disappointed the the injuries to Adam and James at the weekend. It’s a blow for us.

“But the boys who came in did well and hopefully they’ll get back fit in the coming weeks.”

James has had no luck with injuries over the past couple of years and this could be another blow for the young Scot. He hasn’t had a good run in the team for a long time now, some Collins is aware of.

“He’s worked so hard to get back to match sharpness and everybody saw in the first half against St Johnstone what he brings to the team -pace, skill, can beat a man very easily.

“But he’s had these niggling injuries the last couple of years

“Fingers crossed, we can get him fitter and stronger and the injuries will become less and less.”
