Adam Matthews who signed for Sunderland last weekend has told fans a big part of his decision to leave Celtic was to get noticed by Wales.

The former Celtic Right Back suggested that because he was playing in the Scottish league he was overlooked at times by the national setup.

“The league in Scotland isn’t great and I think the Welsh manager saw that and hopefully this move will help me improve my chances of getting into the Welsh team because they are doing really well at the minute. But I just needed a new challenge.” said Matthews

Adam spent 4 years at Celtic and during that time he was capped 12 times by his country.

The 23-year-old may have been worried about his place in the Celtic first team now that Lustig is fit as well as Saidy Janko coming in which would have put him down the pecking order for club and country.

His move to Sunderland suited all parties and we wish Adam all the best with his international ambitions.
