It may not have been on many Celtic fan’s radars this summer but one of our invincibles contracts has run out and nobody has noticed.

Kolo Toure, who played most of his games at the start of last season before taking up a more behind the scenes role at the club has been without a club since the Scottish Cup Final in May.

Brendan Rodgers spoke about potentially bringing Kolo back as a full-time coach but the player himself wants to stay a player for another couple of seasons, and that has been the sticking point.

Speaking yesterday though, the double invincible has noted he could be set to sign on again for Celtic and Rodgers in a player/coach role but admitted it’s not a done deal yet.

“Celtic are the club with whom discussions are most advanced.” said Kolo

“I love football too much to stop today, but I also think about my future.

“Brendan is okay to teach me the trade at the same time.

“But as things stand I don’t close the door to any other club.”

Many Celtic fans might think there’s no point in signing the Ivory Coast defender up for another season or two but many players behind the scenes last season spoke of Kolo’s calming influence on the younger members of the squad and how he’s built up a great rapport with many youngsters. It would be a shame to lose that.
