Reports tonight suggest Aston Villa winger Aleksandar Tonev is on his way to Celtic on a season long loan.

The Bulgarian has been a long time target of the Celtic scouting system and tried to sign the player last summer before the player eventuall signed for Aston Villa from Lech Poznan.

Paul Lambert is keen to see the player go out this summer and Celtic have revived their interest since.

The 24 year old winger still has a point to prove after a disappointing season at Villa appearing on 17 occasions for the club.

If this deal goes through this will be Ronny Deila’s second loan signing after bringing Jo Inge Berget 2 weeks ago from Cardiff. This is after the Norwegian manager told the media that he was not so keen on going down the loan signing route.

He said: “Loan deals are a possibility but they are not ideal. You don’t want to develop other clubs’ talent and not get any money for it.”

However a loan deal may be beneficial in this case as Celtic look set to have first option on the player for an agreed upon fee at the end of the season.

Deila has made no secret he wants wide men in at the club and Tonev could be the perfect fit as he looks to kick start this rusty Celtic team.
