At the weekend, such is the depth of Celtic’s squad they could afford to leave out one of their biggest signings in terms of money outlay in the last ten years and last season’s top striker.

Brendan Rodgers opted not to start Olivier Ntcham and not risk Moussa Dembele who is being carefully nursed back to full fitness at Ibrox. The two players were not needed as Celtic picked apart their Glasgow rivals with ease.

Celtic now move onto Anderlecht in the Champions League with a fresh Olivier Ntcham and a start striker itching to make an impact.

Celtic fans know from experience that it will take a massive effort for the team to come away with a positive result, playing well away from home doesn’t guarantee you anything and more often than not luck can play its part.

Brendan Rodgers believes in his team and while we can’t live with Barcelona, the Irishman, like the rest of us will feel we can take something in Belgium.

The not so distance passed has told us Celtic can compete but we can also be the footballing equivalent to a rabbit in the headlights.

Our big players must stand up and be counted and it could be the fresh Frenchman who make the difference.

It’s going to give us a decent gauge is to where Celtic are at.
