BRENDAN RODGERS has intimated that he’s waiting on the confirmation of the Rivaldo Coetzee deal, which he expects to go through shortly.

The Irishman has snapped up the young defender, who offers something just a little bit different to Celtic’s defensive options.

Having seen Nir Bitton struggle against Astana on Tuesday night it’s of utmost importance that the manager has suitable players for his backline should the squad succumb to injury – much like they have right now.

Rivaldo spoke to the media ahead of the move and revealed he’s ‘over the moon’ and believes he will fit in well with Celtic’s system. With the huge selling point that the manager has faith in his young talent.

“I’m over the moon. It’s something that I’ve always worked towards since I joined Ajax, and now it’s happened. I think that it’s the right time and the right club.” said the 20-year-old.

“I met with the Celtic scout, and he showed me some videos about the club, supporters and facilities. I think it’s the best option because the coach believes in youngsters and the type of football they play, coming out of the back, suits me nicely.”

  1. Brends got great eye for talent look what he nearly achieved wi Liverpool and that’s a hell o a hard league I grew up fergus mcaann era apart from tommy burns bhoys I think this is best football iv saw celtic play HH

  2. He is a prospect. We were told that Celtic were in the market for CL ready footballers this season and these footballers would be acquired. That needs to happen in the next ten days or so. Looks like Rodgers landed lucky with Ntcham who will be number 1 pick in midfield. But he is actually still a prospect. After last night it is clear that Celtic need two defenders, a goalie, a midfielder and a striker to be ready to play in the CL . All of this will cost 15-20 million and we all know how much chance there is of the board spending this. If they do not, then it is simply a case of making up the numbers and taking a severe beating on more than one occasion. If Celtic do not improve in Europe how long do you think Rodgers will hang around? Does anyone think he will be enthused by beating Kilmarnock and New Rangers? Of course not. Going through two seasons without getting beat in Scotland scores you no points whatsoever with the footballing world. Losing more than 2 game sin a hundred is a blaqck mark on your CV. He knows this and if Celtic are not able to sign CL ready players (what are the board saving the money for?) then he will not want to be a part of the humiliation. This morning Celtic are the team that every club wants to draw as they will fancy their chances of 6 points. That may be to our advantage. Surely the shame of the first 25 minutes of the second half cannot be repeated?

  3. Some strange comments on here …..we’ve just qualified for the group stages without our centre backs playing!!! We don’t need massive changes we already have the players we need a bit more depth that’s all.
