Celtic started off their pre-season with a 2-2 draw against NK Celje in Slovenia last night and Brendan Rodgers was happy with his new squads efforts.

The new Celtic manager has had this group of players for a week or two now and while he admits he can learn a lot from training with them, there’s no substitute for seeing them in action.

Goals from Ciftci and Rogic brought Celtic back from being 2-0 down and while the results on pre-season tours like this don’t matter so much it was nice to see some fighting spirit at this early stage.

Speaking to the Official Celtic site Rodgers was happy with his side :

“It was an excellent work out for us,” said the Celtic boss after taking charge of his team in match action for the first time. “The overall agenda of the game was to develop our fitness, and there certainly was that, so I’m very pleased.

The Champions league qualifiers are looming large for Celtic who will find out who they are playing next week. Flora from Estonia hold a 2-1 lead over Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red going into the second leg in Gibralter.

  1. Firstly we have no chance of qualifying for the champions league group stages (in my opinion thankfully cause we will get destroyed), now I believe in Brendan Rodgers, but he’s not that good to have this bunch ready for Europe, yes we are great from the middle up, but it’s the defence that worries me. Secondly I hope Rodgers stays longer than a year to develop this team the way he wants to into the team he wants
