Celtic aren’t known for doing things the easy way, especially in Europe. That’s why tonight’s clash with Salzburg may prove to be uncomfortable viewing at times for the support.

While Celtic have home advantage they will have to put in a hard shift if they want to progress in the competition with a game to spare.

Salzburg are unbeaten in eight UEFA Europa League away contests (W7 D1) They are also the group stage’s top scorers with 13 goals from their four fixtures – an average of 3.25 per match.

They’re a team not to be underestimated. Celtic did manage a 2-2 draw away from home but that does not guarantee the same or better result at Celtic Park.

With no John Guidetti to call upon it will be up to the other strikers to make a big impact on the game. Stokes and Commons could prove pivotal if they come with their shooting boots on.

Scott Brown will be back in from a domestic suspension at the weekend to captain the side and may prove a catalyst for a better performance than the one we got against Dundee on Saturday.

Winning this game is far from beyond Celtic but they must not take anything for granted. They’re capable of causing Salzburg all sorts of problems but can be their own worst enemies at times with slack passing and below par finishing.

It is certainly going to be an interesting night, I think Celtic can do it but I’ll be surprised if they don’t make us all sweat a little.
