Tony Watt is set to sign for Belgian side Standard Liege in a £1.2million deal plus future addons.

The striker has had a turbulent Celtic career to say the least. His attitude brought into question several times by Neil Lennon and by Lierse boss Stanley Menzo who demoted the Scottish youngster to the B team during his loan spell last season.

Watt spoke out at the time about the controversy –

“Menzo has two sets of rules. But you can’t have different rules for different players. He clearly doesn’t like me.”

The Belgian club were less than impressed by his bed side manner and claimed he was unfit.

It’s unfair to criticise Tony for everything that has happened, he his a young lad forging out his career who needs guidance – guidance that looked to be forthcoming from Ronny Deila when the new boss took over but whatever has happened now it will see Tony leave permanently.

Celtic don’t have a great pool of strikers to call on at the moment so the timing of the move is questionable considering there are another 2 hurdles to jump if Celtic are to make it to the Champions League proper.

With no signings in sight until we know our Euro fate we are walking a very dangerous tight rope.

If Tony does complete his move away from Celtic this week then we wish the player all the best in his future career. While he might not want to be remembered for ‘THAT GOAL’ it will certainly live long in the memory of all Celtic supporters.
