After another week of goalkeeper uncertainty, the chat has inevitably shifted to Celtic dipping their toe in the January market to sign a new goalkeeper.

Scott Bain hasn’t been good enough and Vasilis Barkas is yet to make any meaningful or game winning save for Celtic. There’s a fragility about a position which has been locked down for years by a clear first team keeper.

With Celtic potentially in the market for a keeper, the talk naturally goes to Fraser Forster.

The Englishman refused a new loan deal in the summer. We can speculate as to why; the chance of a first team spot at Southampton or even just wanting his long term future sorted.

Whatever the reason, Fraser hasn’t made the breakthrough and Celtic need a goalkeeper.

If we can go to Southampton and negotiate a deal which suits all parties, it’s a no brainer to bring in the big man.

Spotrac have his wages clocked at £70kpw, if the club pay that in full for six months it will cost Celtic £1.82m in wages. Southampton would likely look for a fee but we can’t see it being astronomical.

It has to be something the board consider. Neil Lennon is able to contact Fraser to feel him out to see if a deal is possible.

While the goalkeeping issue is only one of the issues currently at Celtic, it would be a massive boost if we seen Fraser come back in the door on January 1st. It would also give the team a big lift.
