Former Celtic star Aiden McGeady has voiced his belief that Kieran Tierney will eventually make a return to Celtic Park.

Speculation of a Parkhead has been recurrent, especially during the summer’s transfer window. However, Tierney’s injury at the Euros this year dampened the immediate prospects of such a move.

Since his departure from Celtic, Tierney’s journey at Arsenal has been a mixed bag, marred by injuries. Initially a favoured player under Unai Emery and later Mikel Arteta, Tierney found challenges in maintaining his spot, with new signings taking over in the role. His subsequent loan to Real Sociedad didn’t mark a resurgence, with an injury at the Euros cutting his campaign short.

Speaking to Boyle Sports, McGeady expressed his confidence about Tierney’s return to Celtic, though he suggested it might not be imminent: “I think 100% it’s going to happen at some point, Kieran Tierney returning to Celtic, but the timing on that remains to be seen.

“I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t play again for Celtic again, but the whole situation has surprised me because he settled in so well with Arsenal when he first arrived there.

“I don’t even think it was a loss of form, maybe down to the injury, and then all of a sudden Mikel Arteta changes his options and finds a different way of playing.

“I’m very surprised that it hasn’t quite happened for him at Arsenal but I can’t see him returning to Celtic just now.

“I still think he’ll want to do that slightly later on in his career. But it will 100% happen at some point.”

With Alex Valle’s loan expiring next summer and Greg Taylor’s contract set to end, Celtic might soon find themselves in need of a left-back.

Tierney, entering the final year of his contract with Arsenal next summer, could be a viable option for Celtic, potentially at a reduced price.

It’ll certainly be a move to keep an eye on, especially if KT continues to have struggles with minutes this season.

  1. Wouldn’t totally rule out a January move for Tierney, even if it would be a longshot to do so imo?
What Rodgers intentions are regarding the LB position in the longer term, are still as clear as mud at present?
Even moreso with still no movement upon Taylor and his contract situation?
Personally don’t think Taylor is going to remain Rodgers 1st choice in the position, throughout the season?
And yet valle is only a loan option without a buy clause in place?
And even monty has been included within our 25man squad and Anderson sent out on loan again?
So with playing half a season without a backup for Taylor last season, we find ourselves now in a position where we have plenty of options in the position, for this season?
Somehow, it might be harder for Taylor to get the improved contract that he is hoping for, especially if Rodgers only sees Taylor as a backup player in the LB position?
Wouldn’t be to sure Taylor would be to interested in playing the backup role either, should that materialises before January?
So still plenty of speculation is going to remain regarding a return of Tierney, but certainly wouldn’t rule out that he may well be in the plans of Rodgers for the longer term imo?
