FRASER FORSTER’S days at Southampton look numbered after the St Mary’s side signed Angus Gunn from Manchester City for £13.5million.

The former Celtic hero was already demoted to back up goalkeeper with the emergence of Alex McCarthy but it now looks as if he will be third behind Gunn next season.

Given the longterm contract he is on, it’s likely Southampton will look to offload the player before the start of the season if there is enough interest in their £10million man.

It is quite a fall from grace for the goalkeeper who enjoyed such a fine first season in the Premier League he was offered improved terms to make sure he wouldn’t be leaving Southampton on the cheap.

A dreadful injury curtailed his second season and some say Forster has never managed to get back to his best.

If the rumours are true and Forster is ready to assess his options – Celtic MUST consider the possibility of bringing the goalkeeper back.

Speaking last year in an interview, Forster spoke of how his heart belongs to Glasgow – a place where he made so many memories and broke records.

A cut-price deal for the 30-year-old could be perfect.

Craig Gordon can’t go on forever, leaving just Scott Bain as the only real option when he does retire.

Getting a 30-year-old keeper who could easily play the next five-six seasons for Celtic would be a no brainer if the price was right!

  1. Big Fraser was an excellent goalkeeper for us, but is he better than Craig Gordon? No, he isn’t, and Scott Bain looks like a capable deputy, so I do not see the point of bringing Fraser Forster back.
