CELTIC’S quiet man Callum McGregor could be in line for a bumper new Celtic contract which would see the midfielder become one of the top earners at the club according to Football Insider.

The website claims a £35kpw deal is in the offing.

Neil Lennon confirmed after the Premier League transfer window had closed that Callum was subject of some interest but the club didn’t entertain the idea. Football Scotland confirming Brendan Rodgers had tried a deadline day bid to land his former midfielder.

The site wrote: “It was reported Brendan Rodgers made a last minute approach for his former player, with the Foxes willing to pay up to £20million for the Scot.”

McGregor is Celtic’s iron man. The player made 59 appearances for the club in all competitions last season and played anywhere the manager has needed him. It was last year around this time Brendan Rodgers found out he could trust Callum in a deeper role in the midfield when Scott Brown was out injured. The player’s technical ability and eye for a pass actually conducive to more attractive and exciting football.

Callum is still contracted to the club until 2023 but a new deal could still be very likely. Olivier Ntcham got a pay hike after Celtic turned down offers for him. Celtic should reward this young man’s loyalty and also make sure he’s here for the best part of his career.
