A lot of our readers might not be too familiar with the world of Gaelic Games, but it is a fairly big deal in Ireland. Almost every community/parish has it’s own GAA Club and every county has a team they call heroes. No players get any wages or payments for playing this amateur sport despite training like professionals all year round while working full-time jobs.
County players can play in front of crowds from between 40,000 and up to 82,000 fans. Yesterday a group of players from the Dublin panel visited Celtic Park and were honoured at half time where they donated a signed Dublin jersey to the Celtic Foundation Christmas Appeal.
The Dublin team have been the Celtic of the GAA world for the past few years. The won a historic 5-in-a-row All Ireland Championship during the summer breaking all kinds of records on the way.
It wasn’t so long ago the hardcore GAA men frowned upon any mention of soccer as it was viewed as a foreign game. Hopefully, this Dublin jersey will fetch a fair price and add to the magnificent work Celtic Football Club do at this time of the year for families living with disadvantage.
