The Twitter echo chamber can be quite disconcerting. Football opinions are plenty but it hosts some of the most visceral and outrageous takes. Some people do it for attention, others are going on their gut and what they perceive when watching the game.

One player who was getting a bit of a hard time recently, believe it or not, was Jota. Before the game against Ross County where he scored and assisted to help the team to victory.

There were calls for Celtic to maybe think twice about signing the player up on a permanent deal from some quarters [I know!].

A quick glance at the Portuguese winger’s key stats this season paints a picture of a player who has been pivotal to Ange ball.

Jota leads the team in chances created [71] for context, Liel Abada is second with 54. Jota also comes out on top for accurate crosses [76], and accurate key passes [42]. All off the In-Stat index.

The player has bagged 11 goals and 12 assists for the bhoys in 36 appearances, 8 of those goals coming in the SPFL.

Simply put, Jota has been outstanding for Celtic this season. If we have the capacity to sign him on a permanent basis this summer we must take the opportunity.

The reported £6.5m [SkySports] fee would be a snip and present real value for money as well as the potential for a massive profit a year or two down the line.

It remains to be seen what Jota is really thinking beyond this season. There’s plenty at play. Other clubs will be monitoring his progress, and Benfica will also be having a second look at the player they loaned out last summer. Jota is a Benfica supporter and if there’s a chance he can make the breakthrough at his boyhood club, there’s every possibility he’d want to explore it,

Fingers crossed Celtic can get a deal over the line.

  1. Jota is not silly boy he knows if he signs a 4 or 5 year deal with Celtic then the door opens up for a move down south,so Jota should stay put and make that happen…
