It was reported yesterday Celtic had a bid knocked back for AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas this week with the Greek club holding out for a large fee.

According to SunSport, the price set for Barkas is £6m.

That would be a very large outlay for Celtic but they must look at the deal at all angles to see how far they’re willing to go to land the keeper.

There are much cheaper options out there but it appears the club have Barkas high up their list of targets.

The same report from SunSport also claimed the goalkeeper wants a move to Celtic Park.

They wrote: “It’s understood the keeper is keen to make the move to Scotland – if a deal can be thrashed out.”

Fraser Forster shows no signs of coming back at this stage. Neil Lennon admitted he can’t leave the door open forever and with the season two weeks away from beginning, Celtic must press ahead and plan for life without the stopper.

Whether they can convince Athens to come down on their price is another thing.
