It was a big topic of conversation after Leigh Griffiths made a media appearance yesterday where he insisted Ange Postecoglou is keen on retaining the Celtic striker’s services.

Leigh’s contract situation is well documented – he’s out of contract at the end of July and right now, he’s free to sign for any club who wants him.

The Hoops had a four-year deal in place with Griffiths but as we’ve learned, the final year was optional and the club have not exercised the clause in his contract to keep him on automatically.

There are likely two reasons for this; they didn’t want to sign Leigh up while no manager was in place to have their say and the club wanted to reduce the terms of the contract offered to the player three years ago.

The forward’s role at the club has severely diminished in those three years and Celtic will likely want a deal in place that rewards game time more than anything else.

The fans have been split on this issue for some time, so we decided to put it out to our Instagram followers.

It wasn’t split at all there, with well over 3000 votes cast, fans voted in favour of Leigh staying on at the club.

There’s no doubt Griff is a great finisher but does he still have chops to play at this level. Celtic need everyone firing, can he make a difference?

  1. Are they all mad? The fact is that he has bitten the hand that fed home time and time again. His lack of consistency has let him down as has his attitude. Of course he has been ill but his promises she’s to the club that sustained him have been as reliable as a Sevco financial statement. Leigh, the ball is up on the slates now. Cheerybye.

  2. Leigh just needs a good manager who will keep him in line, with Ange he will get that and may even improve, if he doesn’t listen he will be gone, out the door, his feet won’t even touch the ground.

  3. This is a no brainer This guy is a born winner. He scores , he riles them up he makes things happen one of best players we have had for years forget all the crap from the so called experts. This guy could have two broken legs and still make most look like cart horses what would have happened if Scotland had him up front

  4. Should have been sold ages ago his attitude and off field behaviour is shocking and he’s nowhere near as good as made out, he’s been hero worshipped by some of our fans for form he’s not shown in 3 years.

  5. If he knuckles down and keeps fit everyone is going to benefit, he is still potentially our best striker after Eddie.
