ANGE POSTECOGLOU has praised Matt O’Riley and Reo Hatate after a brilliant performance from the pair in Celtic’s win over Ross County.

The manager sent a warning to the rest of the week, predicting that the two players will only be better after the World Cup break.

Since Callum McGregor’s injury, the two have shared his roles, with Matt O’Riley sitting further back. He was immense today, intercepting a few passes, putting in a great few challenges and putting his body on the line. It was one of his best performances this season.

Reo Hatate was different gravy today, too, in what was arguably one of his best games in a Celtic shirt. He was extremely skilful on the ball, moving it around the pitch effortlessly. He’s a top, top player, and Japan are foolish not to have him in the World Cup squad.

Speaking after the game, Postecoglou said; [BBC Sportsound]

“He was brilliant. He and Matty have carried an enormous shift over this period. We lost Callum McGregor early on and he’s such an influential player and fantastic footballer, Callum. And he played every game.

“We had to fill that void somehow. It’s been Matt and Reo who have done that. Even today, they just refused to yield.

“They gave everything of themselves. Both in the qualities they have and in terms of character. Both of them will have grown enormously during this period because what they’ve been through has made them better footballers.

“I think we’ll see the best of them after the break.”
