STEVE DAVIS has told Ibrox supporters Celtic are due a certain amount of respect at Hampden next month when the two teams collide for the first silverware of the season.

Both Glasgow Clubs made it safely through to the final, making short work of their Edinburgh counterparts over the weekend.

It now sets up an all Glasgow final with the stadium set to be filled right down the middle between both sets of supporters.

There will be a lot of hyperbole in the lead up to this game but Steve Davis has broken from that script to declare Celtic deserve respect for what they have achieved to date.

Celtic have won 9 out of the last 9 domestic trophies and it has been no accident.

Davis clearly knows the bhoys will be out to make it number ten and doesn’t want to fuel the bhoys fire by being overly confident.

“It’s going to be an interesting final, that’s for sure.” Davis told RecordSport.

“I scored in 2011 and it would be nice if history repeated itself, but it’s going to be a difficult one to predict.

“Both clubs have been in really good form since the start of the season and this is a game that will whet the appetite of the fans.

“Whenever it comes to a cup final, history doesn’t always come into it.

“Naturally, we’ll need to give them a certain amount of respect because of what they’ve achieved in recent years and the consistency they’ve shown, but the challenge for us is to lift the trophy on the day.”

Celtic won’t be swaggering into the game and know they will have to roll up their sleeves and be at their best on the day to win the competition. It should be a very good spectacle.
