Neil Lennon had his say on Sky Sports about the proposed Super League that’s now crumbling before our very eyes.

The former Celtic manager believes the manner in which it was brought to the fore was totally unacceptable and contributed to the backlash across Europe.

Lennon also claimed you can’t have a super league without the likes of PSG and Bayern.

“Yes, it can’t be a Super League without the like of PSG, Bayern Munich, Benfica anyway.” The former Celtic boss told SkySports, as cited by the Daily Record.

“This has been a concept that has been talked about for a long, long time, but just the manner in which is was brought out publicly and that there was going to be no relegation, it just was a non-starter for me.

“I don’t think the owners of these clubs who are dominated by money and power have really got a depth of feeling of people around the world, in Europe, particularly here in Britain, and not only for their own clubs but what it means to people in the UK.

‘Already we are seeing clubs backtracking and it’s a complete embarrassment for them.”

The whole concept is in retreat now due to the backlash from UEFA, FIFA and the supporters.

Some believe they’ve saved the soul of football. In reality, they get to play in their heavily skewed Premier League setup where fourth placed sides swagger into the Champions League where winners of leagues in Scotland and Netherlands have to jump through Hoops.

Nobody can convince me the game is not already rigged in favour of the richer leagues.

Perhaps they’ll let us play with their ball now since a lot of them are not happy with greed?

  1. In order to have success, you have to have a squad that grew up with fuc&ing nothing, but a tennis ball or a burst ball. Or in Peles case, a rag ball, terminal poverty, been hungry and watched your parents survive and weep a whole lot.
Football may come high up on most people’s desires, but without anyone to move it, a ball is just a air filled sphere. See how may people will stand and sit in all weather’s and pay to see a ball that does nothing. Football is not modern art. It alive with emotion. So please let it remain.

  2. UEFA have had a lot to say over the last couple of days about how important clubs like Celtic are to European football, since their monopoly over the game has been threatened, now let’s see them level the playing field to give Clubs like Celtic a better crack of the whip!

I won’t be holding my breath, empty patronising platitudes when it suits there greedy appetites!
A pawn to be used whenever needed!
