There has bee a lot made of Shane Duffy’s form for Celtic. The defender had made some high profile mistakes before being benched by the Celtic manager.

Shane hasn’t started a game in over a month for the club, the Irishman’s mistakes finding him out of favour with the Celtic manager.

As January approaches, the rumours about a get out clause for Celtic to send Shane back have intensified but we’ve still not had word from either club if that’s possible.

Celtic are paying all of Shane’s wages and also paid a handsome loan fee to bring the centre-back to the club for the season.

However, right now, it looks like the move is destined to fail.

Former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell Football Insider: “Shane Duffy has been highly successful in the Premier League and you would have expected him to hit the ground running.

“But Celtic have not been playing well, it is not just him. They have been conceding cheap goals and struggling to score.

“They are not blowing teams away anymore so every player will be looked at. The club may look at the Duffy situation and see it as a cost they do not need. That is probably the way they are looking at it.”

Celtic can’t afford to have any passengers, and especially highly paid ones. It would stand to reason, if there was a break in the deal, Celtic would likely exercise that part come next month.

Celtic would still need defensive reinforcements without Duffy’s departure, Hatem Elhamed looks as if his time at Celtic is over and the club must sign a replacement for the Israeli before letting him go.

It should be a semi-busy window for Celtic but Neil Lennon warned it could go to the wire if they want to get the players they desire, by that time, it could be a case of planning for next season rather than this one.
