DAVIE HAY believes Celtic must act ‘urgently’ to secure Jonny Hayes before the player enters the last six months of his contract.

Hay believes the Irishman has proven himself to be a worthwhile addition to the side and has come up trumps for Neil Lennon this term. As such, Hay wants to see Hayes rewarded with a new dea.

At 32-years-old it might not be the most prudent thing to do for Celtic and as we’ve seen with the Mikael Lustig deal falling through in the summer – the club won’t just hand new deals to top servants if they don’t believe it’s in their best interests.

“I would offer Jonny Hayes a new contract at Celtic as a matter of urgency. He more than deserves it.” Hay told the Evening Times.

“He has proven time and again to be a reliable performer when called upon, and very often that is in the big games too.

“He came off the bench at Ibrox and scored, he was different class over in Rome against Lazio, and he never lets the side down.

“Yes, he may be 32 now, but I think he merits at least another year. He’s proved to be such a valuable member of the squad.

Hayes is having his best season at Celtic, however, a knee jerk reaction to his form and commitment is driving this clamour for the player to get a new deal.

There is certainly value in the player this season but will there be going forward?

  1. Jonny Hayes is playing his best football for Celtic, and the fans see it, they know it, and believe he should get a new contract. He covers a big mileage every game and deserves our praise. Time to deal him in Peter?
