HATEM ELHAMED came into the club with man supporters underwhelmed by the signing – after being linked with so many right backs and needing someone in that position for a long time, to see an unknown come through the door on the cheap didn’t fill many with confidence.

However, since coming to Scotland – the Celtic defender has put a string of performances together which have endeared him to the Celtic support. None more so than the game at Ibrox when before the tie the Israeli didn’t train for ten days due to injury.

The lad has been quietly going about his business and looks assured. While Moritz Bauer is also playing the position – the on-loan stoke defender is much more of an attacking asset. Elhamed gives you some defensive assurance but at the same time can get forward and put in some neat balls when the opportunity presents itself.

Currently away on international duty and seemingly over the illness that kept him in his hotel over the weekend – the Celtic star sat down and spoke about life at Celtic and it would appear from what he’s saying that the player gets it.

“This is life at a big club. Every game is important and there are big goals. We want to win everything so when one game is finished you must focus on the next.

“The intensity is a little bit different from Be’er Sheva but that was also a big club in Israel, with many fans and big goals.” he told RecordSport.

“This was the right move at the right age. I had experience with Be’er Sheva in the Europa League and I am very happy at Celtic

“Every game you play at Celtic is big and fans have the right to react to a result however they want.

“That’s what happens at a club like this, the supporters expect a lot. We need to be professional and focus on the next game.

“We need to show our character and mentality to send 60,000 fans home happy.
