KRISTOFFER AJER has grabbed his opportunity this season with both hands and truly cemented himself as one of Brendan Rodgers first team centre backs.

His performance against Aberdeen yesterday further proof he’s growing into his new role and showing a maturity beyond his age.

The 19-year-old has been a standout since coming into the side but the Aberdeen game showed off all he brings to the team. The Norweigan plays with his head up, always looks to go forward and will even take the ball out of defence if a pass isn’t available. Stevie May tried to bully the young lad and quickly found out that was easier said than done as he shrugged off the Aberdeen striker.

Celtic fans have been on social media raving about the young lads performance. This time last season Ajer was on-loan to Kilmarnock where he actually won player of the year in the four months he was at the club.

Signed by Ronny Deila on a pre-contract, the player was in somewhat no mans land when Deila left and Rodgers came in. He has waited patiently and changed the position he played to get into the Celtic team and getting his just rewards for his hard work.

Once Marvin Compper is fully fit, it’s likely that Brendan Rodgers will pair the two together and hope they hit it off with youth and experience combining.

  1. Always liked this big lad, very bright and distinctive languid style. Captain of his Norwegian side ‘Start’ if I remember rightly. Brave to get back up then receive any ball on his head after the injury. His left eye was very swollen at the end. Broony will be proud of him. Great performance all round.
