Former Scotland international and current Scottish football pundit James McFadden was open and honest about Celtic’s humiliating 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
Celtic suffered a comfortable defeat in Germany, delivering a performance that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
McFadden said: (BBC Sportsound), “It’s a wonderful finish. Nmecha steps onto it with his right foot, it’s low and hard with power into the side-netting. Schmeichel, again, absolutely no chance.
“A night to forget for Celtic in so many ways. I don’t think you can begrudge Dortmund that scoreline. A sobering night for Celtic.”
McFadden is absolutely correct to point out that Dortmund were fully deserving of their victory.
Despite an unbeaten start to the season, Celtic’s run came to a halt tonight in what served as a wake-up call for the future.
The match highlighted the adjustments the Hoops need to make in their approach to Champions League play against opponents like Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund deserve all the praise for their commanding victory, while Celtic must face the brunt of the criticism.
Dortmund were clinical in their finishing, capitalising on every opportunity, whereas Celtic’s performance was nothing short of woeful.
I for one did not see that coming tonight, but the German team certainly deserved their win. We just seemed intent to give the ball away time after time. Hoping we learn from it, and we just can not change from being an attacking team to a defensive one. Let’s keep playing our own game and it will come good! I still believe that we will qualify for the final stages. They did to us tonight , what we do week in week out in or own league. Hail Hail
