CHRIS SUTTON believes Brendan Rodgers is airing dirty laundry out in public again with the way he spoke about potential new signing Maryan Shved.

Rodgers revealed after the match the player was close to signing a deal with the club but that he himself knew very little about the player and that he had “a million” midfielders already.

This set off alarm bells for some of the fans who believed the manager was in full control of transfers. However, it could be the manager sends his scouts and the club out to find the players with the attributes he wants and then the Irishman will sign off on them before its finalised.

With the likes of the Oliver Burke deal, the Celtic loan star admitted Rodgers had called him up personally to bring him to the club, so did the Celtic manager actively pursue the player or was he at the point when he was happy to sign off on that particular deal?

Chris Sutton thinks there’s something not right and believes there is still a strained relationship at play between Peter Lawwell and the Celtic manager.

“After Celtic’s win, Brendan Rodgers spoke about transfer target Maryan Shved and revealed he didn’t know much about him.” Sutton Wrote in his RecordSport Column.

“If this is how Celtic’s transfer committee is working and Brendan is suggesting he didn’t have a big say then it’s a head scratcher.

“It doesn’t seem like Brendan is toeing the party line and – like he did in pre-season – he has thrown Peter Lawwell under the bus.

“Relationship breakdowns between managers and CEOs don’t normally end well.”
