Celtic have now confirmed their title win, something which has been expected for months at this point, and as a result, there is now a historic one-up that no longer exists.
With the recent dominance of the Bhoys, the other team in Glasgow have always fallen back on the fact that they had won 55 top-flight titles, despite the 2012 situation where a new club was effectively formed. However, that can no longer be fallen back on.
With this year’s title, Celtic have now won 55 titles, matching that record which Rangers have so fiercely attempted to hold onto for years, and in complete honesty with no bias, it is understandable why. Considering this is now the 11th SPFL title that the club have won since the league’s creation in 2013.
After all, why would you not make the most of a situation when it was so inevitable that it was going to have a new holder in the very near future?
If you are already considering a bet on next year’s league winner (which will hopefully be the fifth in a row), then head over to BettingLounge, who have the best sports odds available at the click of a button, including Scottish Premiership fixtures.
Debates will continue to roar on about the legitimacy of 55, but the facts are very clear. The Celtic Football Club have won 55 titles from the same roots as those planted in 1888. That is legacy.
Looking back on this season
This has been a great season for the club, and there can be no doubt about that.
We’ll start with Europe, where the Bhoys won three games (most notably against RB Leipzig), whilst also getting a big draw against Atalanta, who have fought for the Scudetto throughout this year in Italy, proving that the club are more than capable of competing against the European Elites.
Then, there was the Knockout Phase, where Brendan Rodgers’ side more than held their own against Bayern Munich, who are themselves heading towards a Bundesliga title in dominant fashion. Once again, proving that this team are more than able to compete at the highest levels of European football.

The Scottish League Cup brought more success, with the club beating Rangers on penalties to secure the first silverware of the season, and yet there was still a chance that two more pieces could be added to an already extensive trophy cabinet.
Aberdeen await in the Scottish Cup final, a side which have not beaten Celtic in the past 10 attempts, which only bodes well for the club’s chances of a cup double. However, the big one has now been secured, which is, of course, the league.
Despite a few recent slips in proceedings, the club have been phenomenal in the Premiership this season, and are more than deserving of a fourth successive title, adding to the 54 titles won in previous years.
It has been a year of emphatic victories, with Rodgers’ men likely to finish the year with more than 100 goals scored, something which has only been accomplished twice in the past 10 years, per stats from Sofascore.
In other words, the proof is in the pudding, and you would only imagine this team continues to get better with more time together. The Bhoys are very much destined for greatness.
Future dominance
The next step then, is to look at the future and what could be. It’s difficult to actually predict what this group can do. Primarily because they have been doing it for so long already, and then because suggesting much change would be unfair after this season.
It would not be a surprise if 55 became 56, and so on and so forth, because there is a clear gap between the Celts and everyone else in the division. That is not a bad thing at all, however, there is a need to level up other aspects so that the gap becomes greater in Scotland, but smaller in Europe.
Another double (if not treble) would of course be fantastic, but then there also has to be a look at how far the club can progress in European competition.
With the fear of repeating a fact already, this season showed that there is an opening to be found in Europe, and Celtic are more than capable of growing into a European contender, even if just towards the mid-stages of the Champions League. Progress is progress, and with Scotland showing no worthy competitors, the club will have a look at the next worth foe from Europe.
