NEIL LENNON has hinted Celtic could be very close to appointing a permanent head scout and it looks like Celtic’s summer intern Nicky Hammond is in pole position.

The former West Brom scout was hired by Celtic on a temporary basis this summer to help with the club’s recruitment after Lee Congerton jumped ship with Brendan Rodgers.

Many were surprised at the move and that a club the size of Celtic were giving such an important role out on a temporary contract. Hammond helped oversee some of the eleven incomings Celtic made in the last window and was certainly part of the mix when it comes to recruitment in and around deadline day.

With no official word yet it was Neil Lennon who gave an update to SunSport on Hammond’s future. The Celtic manager confirming Hammond is still working in the background right now.

“Nicky is working away in the background, writing a report, talking to all the other scouts we have on the ground so we will have a good look at that when it’s finalised,”

“I certainly think that he would be a very good candidate, put it that way.”

If Nicky gets the gig on a full time basis he will have the expectations of the fans on his shoulders to help bring in a new wave of talent over the next few years. Supporters were pleased with the business Celtic eventually managed in the transfer window.
