Last night we were made aware of Sian and Jonathan Thomas’ heartbreaking story via Wales Online and felt compelled to help get the word out on what Sian is doing for her husband’s memory.

Jonathan Thomas, a massive Celtic fan who helped raise thousands for charity in the name of Celtic when he was with us sadly passed away last year at the very young age of 30.

Jonathan was diagnosed with terminal bile duct cancer in February last year and the couple who had always planned on marriage got engaged.

Last year Sian and Jonathan had to move up their wedding date when doctors told Jonathan he didn’t have much time left. They were married just a day when Jonathan breathed his last breath in the arms of his new wife Sian. Speaking to Wales Online Sian looked back fondly at the wedding to the love of her life.

“I can still see the smile on his face when he knew he’d said all the words in the wedding service.

“His vows were some of the last words he said to me.

“He was so brave. He was conscious for the rest of the day but went to sleep and didn’t wake up.”

Sian is marking her first wedding anniversary by walking 350 miles to raise funds for people with ulcerative colitis, the condition that led to Jonathan’s cancer.

She is doing the 350 mile trip from her husband’s home in Merthyr to Celtic Park. She plans to arrive at Celtic Park on October 22nd on the first anniversary of the couple’s marriage.

“I started where Jonathan was born and it’s wonderful that I will walk into Celtic Park, back to a place he loved.

“He totally got what Celtic stood for, he loved what the club was all about. It was about much more than the football.”

Celtic players and the club’s manager Brendan Rodgers are supporting Sian on her two-week walk as she raises funds for Crohn’s & Colitis UK and the Celtic FC Foundation.

A fantastic effort by Sian who is doing her husband proud. Something the whole Celtic Family can get behind.

If you’d like to donate to Sian’s cause then please follow the link. Let’s show Sian why Jonathan loved this club so much!
