Aberdeen have officially confirmed the signing of Mitchel Frame from Celtic in a deal worth a six-figure fee, bringing an end to the promising 19-year-old’s time at Parkhead.
While some fans may be surprised by Frame’s departure, it reflects the current depth chart at left-back. With Kieran Tierney the clear first-choice and Liam Scales pushed out to left-back, add in Mareclo Saracchi’s arrival, Frame had found himself fourth in line for a place in Brendan Rodgers’ plans.

Frame, who made his senior debut at just 17 years old during Celtic’s 2-1 Champions League win over Feyenoord in December 2023, had attracted interest from clubs across Europe. Liverpool had a bid knocked back earlier in the summer, and Anderlecht also held discussions about a potential deal, but it’s Aberdeen who have moved decisively to secure the teenager.
The Dons’ boss Jimmy Thelin has provided the Scotland youth international with a clear pathway to regular first-team football, something that Celtic couldn’t guarantee at this stage of his development.
With a significant sell-on clause included in the deal, Celtic will retain an interest in Frame’s future success. This move represents a sensible decision for all parties, giving the young defender the platform to continue his progression while allowing Celtic to streamline their options amid ongoing transfer activity.
