OLIVER ABILDGAARD has opened up on his tough start to life at Celtic, talking about training alone to get back to match fitness.

He played his first bit of football in four months, featuring for a minute in Celtic’s win over Motherwell last weekend before playing the majority of the Hoops’ loss in Germany.

With Callum McGregor out, it’s the perfect time for the Danish midfielder to make an impact with Celtic, with plenty of opportunities to be afforded to him over the next few weeks.

Speaking about his arrival at Celtic, he opened up on his solo training, paying thanks to the coaches at Celtic, he said; [Celtic TV]

“I’d be lying if I said it was easy because I was training on my own for three months.

“It’s easy enough to maintain general fitness, but in terms of
football fitness and specific exercises, it takes some time to come back. But I’m on the right track now. The staff and physical coaches are helping me get back to my level and where I should be. I’m getting
there slowly and trying to be patient.”

Hopefully, Abildgaard will be handed his full debut in Perth on Saturday, where he can get the chance to impress the travelling support.

The minutes will be beneficial for the player, with a big Champions League game coming up on Tuesday. He’ll need to be as sharp as he can be for the encounter against RB Leipzig.
