JOHN KENNEDY has been linked with a major role in Celtic’s rebuild this summer and as the news broke there’s been more opposing the idea than backing the interim Hoops boss.

John has been part of lots of different parts of the club. The current chief executive, Peter Lawwell gave Kennedy a chance back in the day after his careers was cut short by injury.

See below for all John Kennedy’s jobs at the club:

John Kennedy’s Non-Playing Celtic Career to date:

Assistant Manager/Interim Boss
Mar 2019 – Present

First Team Coach
Jul 2014 – Feb 2019

Development Squad Coach
Oct 2012 – Jul 2014

Under 19 Coach
Jul 2011 – Oct 2012

First Team Scout
Feb 2010 – Jul 2011

The Hoops are at a crossroads and many want to see a clean break in terms of backroom staff moving on. The latest report has Kennedy moving up and not on.

Some could argue he’s best placed to deal with a restructure at the club but more will argue it’s time for a bit of variety and the role would stink of jobs for the bhoys.

Fergal Harkin of Manchester City has been linked with the job. A guy who has overseen Manchester City’s loan department. The guy has lots of contacts and his knowledge of up and coming young stars will be of benefit to Celtic.

However, if Kennedy gets the role, it’s more a throw of the dice. The club need to ask themselves if he’s the best man for the job or it’s simply continuing John’s employment out of loyalty.

John Kennedy would not want the job if it was the latter.

Personally, I believe the interim Celtic manager should move on and become a manager away from the club.

  1. If it is Eddie Howe as new manager then he will want his own team in new players and will only keep players that want to stay and be part of the Eddie Howe team, there should be no place in Howes back room for JK he Eddie Howe will want to do it his way and not have some one there from the past 9 or last season holding his hand…
