Adam Montgomery is set to be joining St Johnstone on a season-long love move [The Courier].

When Montgomery first broke in to the side under Ange Postecoglou, supporters where unsure of where his best position was with the player featuring at left-back as well as on the wing.

After a loan spell at Pittodrie last season, it looks like the Hoops youngster will be playing in defence for the Saints as they look to have a much better campaign this year following their play-off hammering of Inverness Caley Thistle.

Currently St Johnstone are desperately needing cover in the left-back area due to current injuries with the 19 year old expected to fill the gap.

Montgomery made 18 appearances for Celtic last season before making the move north to the Granite City.

His game time at the Dons was limited due to a hamstring injury which kept him out of action for almost two months.

His most memorable moment of last season did however come at Pittodrie in green and white hoops when he assisted Jota’s winner in a 2-1 victory in early October which ended Celtic’s dire run of results on the road.

Having featured so regularly for Celtic at the beginning of last season, there could still be a future for Montgomery at Parkhead.

It will be important for the player to get a good run of games under his belt and nail down the position which suits him best.

With one player out the door who can play at left-back, this hopefully indicates that another will be arriving soon the transfer of Alexandro Bernabei expected soon.
