Celtic will most likely miss out on Riley McGree after Middlesbrough offered him more lucrative financial terms.

At Celtic, Riley had the opportunity to join up with Ange Postecoglou and be a part of something special. According to reports on Monday night [Record Sport], Celtic had agreed to terms with the 23-year-old. However, before the papers were signed, Boro’ entered the picture with greater terms and it appears as if Riley will end up signing for the English side

Two English reporters close to the deal claim it’s almost done.

Celtic can’t compete with even Championship clubs in terms of pay packages. If a Championship side really wants a player, they can provide much greater compensation.

The Hoops’ appeal is based on the desire of players to put winning trophies and European football above cashing in on a more lucrative deal.

Some players rely on their potential to join Celtic, develop as a player, win trophies, and then move on to more lucrative possibilities.

Riley looks set to take the money at the front end, trophies and European football taking a back seat.

Celtic would have made their position clear and will not enter a bidding war over the player.

Riley looks a very decent player, but Celtic must have players in at the club who are ready to fight and be part of something. If that’s not for McGree then it’s not a big loss.

  1. Not a big deal some we win some not,but most of all the deals we win are the ones the player wants to come 100% but i still say Bevis Mugabi would be a good buy…
