NEIL LENNON has commented on the capture of winger/striker Jonathan Afolabi over the weekend and where the Celtic manager sees the player at this moment in time.

The deal came from nowhere on Saturday with Jonathan at the Celtic vs Dunfermline tie before signing for the club on a two-year deal.

The former Southampton player has been without a club since the end of the season and played for Ireland at the under 21 tournament this summer.

If anyone is expecting to see the player over the coming weeks, they may have to wait. The Celtic manager says he will train with the first team but likely to play for the developmental side.

“We have signed him on a free transfer and he is one that’s a development,” Celtic manager Neil Lennon told the Irish Times.

“He is sort of on the cusp [of the first-team]. He will come in and train with us and we will get a good look at him over the next few weeks and see what we want to do with him in terms of his progression.

“He had a great tournament in the Euros. He is raw but he has good potential.”

It is a very low risk move by Celtic with high reward if the player settles well at the club.

Not too many will know about the player’s attributes and it will only be when he gets in and around the first team that many Celtic fans will be able to see for themselves.
