FORMER Celtic midfielder, Aiden McGeady says he is looking forward to renewing ties with Celtic when the bhoys head to the Stadium of Light at the end of the month.

The game, which will be for the Dafabet cup is to celebrate 20 years of Sunderland taking up residence at the Stadium of Light and the Irishman admits there’s no better team than Celtic to play for such an occasion.

“It’s great preparation – Celtic had an unbelievable season last year and the manager has built a good squad.

“For a pre-season friendly you couldn’t choose a better club, with the fanbase and following they have. It should make for a good atmosphere.

“I just want to get started now with Sunderland and repay the faith that the manager and everyone has shown in me.”

Aiden signed for Sunderland for a cut price fee after failing to make an impact for the Merseyside club. The player is now looking forward to making himself a mainstay for The Black Cats.

Sunderland vs Celtic will take place on 29th July 3 pm, Kick off.

  1. Perhaps those fans who criticised the club for requesting them to stay away from Windsor Park will apologise and heed the club’s advice in future. In the dead of winter WP could be a treacherous place to visit never mind at the height of the sectarian “marching season”, which believe it or not lasts for 6 months.
There were noises about engineering conflict during the match with the object of having Celtic thrown out of Europe.
With the animalistic Orange mob there is no limit to what they will get up to. Listen to GOOD ADVICE in future, I beg you.
