Former Celtic defender Alan Stubbs has floated the theory by Go Radio that Peter Lawwell hasn’t pulled the trigger on relieving Neil Lennon of his duties because he doesn’t want to end his tenure as Celtic chief exec on a sour note with the Irishman.

Peter Lawwell will be stepping down at the end of this season but due to results the fans believe a change in the manager is not only overdue but necessary.

Celtic have fallen from a great height this season and the fans know the team are around five months away from their first Euro qualifier. If things aren’t sorted out quickly, we could sleepwalk into another Euro exit.

“From now until the end of the season, no matter what results Celtic get, it’s about looking at the bigger picture.

“I respect Neil Lennon 100%. He’s been remarkable in terms of his tenure and what he’s achieved.

“But I just don’t know, with his biggest alibi in Peter Lawwell going, that leaves him even more vulnerable.

“With Peter going and it’s all come out, I think the last thing Peter wanted to do, because of the relationship he’s had with Neil, is sack him and end it on a really sour note.”

We would hope this isn’t the case. Peter’s obligation is to Celtic and the supporters, not any one individual. Neil Lennon or not, the club need to make hard decisions now for the betterment of the side going forward.

Dominic McKay needs clean slate and if he’s picking over the bones of this current season for too long, it will hinder our progress next season.

  1. Lawwell has probably pulled the trigger on other Celtic FC employees, what would make Lennon a special case, especially as he has been under performing in his role all season.
In my opinion they both should go asap for the sake of the club, as the longer they stay, the bigger the mess they are leaving behind.
