ARSENAL Star Alex Iwobi has told Arsenal’s Matchday programme he almost left the club six years ago after many people telling him he wouldn’t make it at the Gunners.

The winger, who is now thriving at the club has told Arsenal fans it could have been so much different had he left the club as a teenager.

The player said there was interest from many clubs but the main one was Celtic who were keen to tie him up on a professional contract back in 2012.

“Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi has admitted he had the chance to join Celtic as a teenager.

“My situation was weird.

“There was three of us at the time and we were basically told ‘stay if you want, or if not you are free to go.

“It was up to me and at that moment I went to the Crystal Palace training ground to see them.

“I had offers from Celtic and Southampton as well. Celtic was the main one but I wasn’t ready to go to Scotland.”

Iwobi chose to stay at the club and work his way through the ranks and it has paid off in a big way for the midfielder.

The 22-year-old has started 19 games for the Gunners this season.

You can’t win them all but Celtic have just managed to pinch Armstrong Oko-Flex from Arsenal who turned down a scholarship with the London side to join Celtic.

If he turns out to be a player similar to Iwobi, it would look like an incredible piece of business.
